Arlene A. Gierl 61, Athens, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her home. She was born May 2, 1947 in the Town of Johnson, daughter of the late Floyd and Angeline (Bielen) Gierl. Arlene farmed in the Town of Johnson for many years and was also a Home Health Aid at the Rib Lake Health Care Center. Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, camping and feeding the birds and chipmunks. Survivors include, one daughter, Dawn (Mark) Punke, Athens; two sons, Dean (Lynn) Zettler, Cleveland, Wis. and Timothy (Jennifer) Zettler, Medford; seven grandchildren, Ciji (Fiance Robert Boneski) Becker, Athens, Mitchel Becker, Dorchester, Johnathon (Fiancee Brittany Balz) Becker, Athens, Tiffany Zettler, Medford, Quentin, Josephine and Samuel Zettler, all of Cleveland, Wis.; four step-grandchildren, Shanna Ford, Athens, Olivia Punke, Athens, Ryan Sorensen, Medford and Lawrence Sorensen Jr., Medford; one brother, James (Delphine) Gierl, Minocqua; three sisters, Bette (Albert) Kunze, Wausau, Donna (Jerry) Krall, Wausau and Marion (Peter) Schemenauer, Abbotsford; her special friend, Jack Szarkowitz, Schofield; her ex-husband, Dale (Jan) Zettler, Marshfield; and many nieces, nephews and relatives. The memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Very Reverend Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens is in charge of arrangements.
