Arleen F. Krahn

Arleen F. Krahn 88, Edgar, died Thursday December 25, 2003 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. She was born April 4, 1915 in Edgar, daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Timm) Wirkus. On June 7, 1940, she married Lawrence Krahn in Edgar. He preceded her in death March 2, 1976. Arleen graduated from Edgar High School and the Stevens Point Teachers College. She was a school teacher at St. John Catholic School, Edgar for over 50 years and received the Presidential Achievment Award from President Ronald Reagan. Arleen enjoyed homemaking, gardening, cards, dancing, fishing and working at her church. She was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar, the Christian Mother's Society, Parish Council of Catholic Women, the National Catholic Society of Foresters Ave Maria Chapter No. 741, and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a daughter, Edith (Ronald) Hamers, Lake Tomahawk; a son, James (Janet) Krahn, Wausau; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 11 great-grandchildren; three step great- grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel (Elsie) Wirkus, Wausau; Joseph Wirkus, Boulder Junction; two sisters, Lucille Calay, PawPaw, Mich., Carmel (James) Carmichael, Appleton. Besides her parents and husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Bradley, Dorothy Redfield, Colette Kiggins. The funeral mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday December 29, 2003 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the Edgar funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Leukemia Society or St. John School.
