Archie W. Schmieder

September 28, 1919 — February 17, 2005

Archie W. Schmieder 85, 145 Eau Claire Blvd., Wausau died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at the Hospice House. He was born September 28, 1919 in Tomah, son of the late Edward and Matilda (Repke) Schmieder. On June 2, 1948 he married Eloise Shattuck at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tomah. She preceded him in death September 12, 2002. Archie worked as a storekeeper for Milwaukee/St. Paul Pacific Railroad in Wausau, Tomah and Milwaukee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, Wausau. Archie spent countless hours doing volunteer work, earning many special awards for his efforts. No matter how busy he was there was always time to take in a game of Bingo. Archie was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his children, Sheila David, Monroe, Mary Schmieder, Phoenix, Ann (Tony) Martin, Levelland, Texas, David (Laurel) Schmieder, Wausau, seven grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Schmieder and Leonard Schmieder, both of Tomah, one sister, Gertrude Westphal, Tomah, two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Shattuck and Patricia Liddane, both of Tomah. Besides his parents and wife Archie was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Zellmer and Margaret Green and one brother George Schmieder. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Tomah. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church in Tomah. There will be a rosary service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Hospice House.
