Antonina Kolubako

February 7, 1921 — November 7, 2011

Antonina "Toni" Kolubako 90, Wausau, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born February 7, 1921 in Zeluze, Poland, daughter of the late Michael and Barbara Telyczka. On February 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to Stefan Kolubako in Germany. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1992 at home where Toni cared for him with love and compassion. The Kolubako's immigrated to the United States in May of 1951 with their two children, Sophia and Steven. Toni received her United States citizenship in December 1962 and worked a number of years at the Mint Cafe retiring in 1980 to take care of her late husband, Steve. Many will remember seeing her pushing Steve in his wheelchair going for walks in Marathon Park or to K-Mart. Toni was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making her favorite Polish dishes, pierogis and golombki. She could make soup out of anything, made the best apple pies and made sure no one left hungry. Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be the same without her. An avid Packer fan, she would bless the team at the beginning of every game and was very happy when they "touched" or scored a touchdown. Toni also enjoyed occasional trips to the casino, but especially spending time with her family and friends. Her bird, Lucy will miss her as well as her cat, Mickey and granddogs, Harper, Baby Girl, Niko and Tomah. Survivors include her son, Steven Kolubako, Wausau; daughters, Sophia Sparhawk, Sparks, Nevada, Helen (Danny) Allen, Schofield, Chris (Brett Sr.) Peterson, Stoughton and Barb (Bob) Kowalchyk, Wausau; nine grandchildren, Donna, Patrick, Kristie (Jeff), Mandi, Brett Jr. (April), Alissa (Dan), Kaylee (Brad), Kara (Bryce) and Tyler; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brittney, Aubrey, Zander, Annalise, Taylor and Tara. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Steve. Mom, you were taken away from us too soon. No more pain and suffering. We share a lifetime of memories and will treasure them until we meet again. With all our love, Steve, Sophie, Helen, Chris and Barb. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Noon on Friday, November 11, 2011 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Thank you to Anna and her family for the rides to church, to her neighbors who stopped by to chat and Sister Mary her phone friend. Also Norma and Ginny for Tuesday's communion, coffee and conversation and to all of our friends who became her friends. She loved you all. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
