Anton E. Wiesman Sr

Anton E. (Tony) Wiesman Sr., 92, of Marathon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a brief illness. Tony was born on February 23, 1920, to Anna and Emil Wiesman, at home in the township of Cleveland in Marathon County. He was the sixth of twelve children. After serving in the army, Tony married Marie Bloechl on October 25, 1947, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. They were married for 63 years. He and Marie farmed in the Township of Marathon for 35 years. During this time, Tony also worked as a machine operator at Marathon Millwork in Wausau for 25 years. Together, they raised five children. In 1985, they retired to Marathon City. During their retirement, Tony and Marie traveled with friends around the United States by bus and train. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers. Tony's deep faith and trust in God were the foundation of his life. He will be remembered for his easy going and tolerant disposition. He was always kind and loving to those around him, even when you found him teasing you in his subtle manner. His faith, strong work ethic and compassion will live on in his family and everyone he met. Tony is survived by his five children Mary Ellen (Dennis) Stein, Lowell; Anton Jr. (Debra), Marathon; Carol (James) Sebranek, Reedsburg; JoAnn (John) Gilchrist, Marathon; and Nancy (Gregory) Senst, Plymouth MN; 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Jamie, Diana, Sonya, Shana, Kristin, Joseph, Kathryn, Julie, Jill, Justin and Mark, and 11 great grandchildren: Aidan, Ethan, Ella, Nora, Jude, Thomas, Allison, Abby, Ava, Payton, and Aveana. He is also survived by his sisters Margie Zastrow, Agnes Brinkman, Grace Stefan, Sister Mary Ann Wiesman and a brother Robert (Grace) Wiesman; sister-in-laws Agnes (Robert) Mader and Joan Bloechl; and many close friends. Preceding Tony in death were his wife Marie, parents, brothers: Walter, Harvey, Bert, and Leonard; sisters: Evelyn Austin and Magdeline Borth; and a granddaughter, Renee Stein. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post No. 469, Marathon. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and again at 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. There will be an American Legion memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Friday and a parish rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home is assisting the family.
