Anthony "Tony" G. Hiebl

December 9, 1934 — February 21, 2025

Anthony “Tony” Hiebl, 90, Wausau, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, February 21, 2025 at his home, under the care of Interim Hospice.

He was born December 9, 1934 in the town of Johnson, son of the late George Jr. and Anna (Krupka) Hiebl.  On October 17, 1980, he married Marlene Duranceau at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church.  She survives.

Tony was a veteran of the United States Army, serving at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas from 1957 – 1959.   In May of 2023, Tony enjoyed his trip of a lifetime on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.

For many years, he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement, then enjoyed working for the Marathon County Parks Department.   Throughout the years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1069, Wausau.

Tony was very proud to have donated over 30 gallons of blood to the Marathon County Blood Center.

Among his favorite pastimes, Tony loved camping, traveling, golfing, bowling, hunting, was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed having a beer with friends.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; three children, Jean (Steve) Crooks, Wausau, Lori (Arnee) Becker, Merrill and Michael Hiebl, Spain; daughter-in-law, Patty Hiebl, Wausau; son-in-law, John Kapas, Maple Grove, MN; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Agnes (Glen) Paul, Dorchester, James (Elaine) Hiebl, Colby and Mary Hiebl  (Lueder Finken), New Berlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Steven Hiebl, Douglas Hiebl, and Deanna Kapas; and four siblings, Delores Hackel, Lawrence Hiebl, Fr. Charles Hiebl and Joseph Hiebl.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau.  Rev. Samuel Martin will preside.  Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 10, Wausau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Name Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Interim Hospice, especially Rocelle and Jenny and the staff at Synergy Home Care for the outstanding care and support for Tony and his family.
