Anthony L. "Tony" Szemborski Sr.
80, 805 Second Street, Marathon, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1925 in Marathon, son of the late John and Isabelle (Hilber) Szemborski. On April 17, 1948 he married Esther Ruplinger at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1998.
Tony and his wife Esther farmed in the Marathon for many years. After farming, he drove truck for Green Bay Packaging until his retirement. Some of Tony's favorite pastimes were fishing and spending time in the outdoors. He also loved tinkering with his old tractors and was actively involved in many area tractor pulls.
Survivors include his children, Diane (Leon) Matushak, Crystal, Minn., and Tony Szemborski, Wausau, his grandchildren Mark and Amy Matushak and one great grandson, Eric Matushak, his siblings, Martin (Rose) Szemborski, New Berlin, John Szemborski Jr., Marathon, Elmira (Jim) Paul, Sheboygan Falls and Carol Bothe, Waukesha.
Besides his parents and wife Tony was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Mroczenski, Florence Soczka and Bernice Mueller.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Tony's name.
