Anthony V. Sakalys

Anthony V. Sakalys 76, Wausau died Friday, April 2, 2010 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at his home. He was born November 11, 1933 in Lithuania, son of the late Antanas and Jadvyga (Mazrimaite) Sakalys. On September 4, 1988 he married Barbara Schleitwiler Krause in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. She survives. Anthony retired in 1989 from AT &T as an electrical engineer after many years of service. He was very fond of woodworking and has many projects to show for himself around his home. Anthony loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Anthony proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sakalys, Wausau, his children, Richard (Susan) Sakalys, Cary, Illinois, Audrey (Karen Moore) Sakalys, St. Louis and Paul (Ann) Sakalys, Westmont, Illinois, his step children, Michael (Tracey) Krause, Orchard Park, New York, Steven (Julie) Krause, Shaker Heights, Ohio and Elizabeth (Eric) Brewer, Pittsford, New York, seventeen grandchildren, one sister, Adele Plienas, Oak Lawn, Illinois and one brother, Bruno (Jura) Sakalys, Colorado. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kazys Algis and Edmundas. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. The Rev. Janusz Kowalski will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
