Anthony "Tony" Passehl
80, Athens, died Thursday February 25, 2010, in the palliative care unit at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born August 7, 1929 in the town of Johnson, son of the late Charles and Margaret (Burger) Passehl. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Athens VFW and American Legion.
Tony was a dairy farmer and had also been employed at Marathon Cheese Corporation. He was a faithful caregiver for his mother and will be affectionately remembered by his nieces, nephews and godchildren as a beloved father figure. Among his favorite things to do were, playing pool, assembling puzzles, traveling to California to visit his sister, and card playing, especially the game at which he claimed to be the master, sheepshead.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret "Marge" Stark, Hemet, Calif., a sister-in-law, Bernice Passehl, Athens and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Loretta Gauthier, Betty Wehrmen, Rev. George Passehl, Jerome Passehl, Charles Passehl, and Urban Passehl.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday March 1, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Very Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Wuertzburg Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
