Anna Nowak

Anna Nowak, 94, Wausau died Thursday, June 21, 2018 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born April 25, 1924 in Poland to the late John and Mary (Pogorzelski) Moskal. On November 11, 1953 she married Frank Nowak in Poland. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2004. After enduring the hardships of World War II and surviving Nazi occupation of Poland, Anna and Frank decided to pursue the opportunity to emigrate to America in search of a better life for themselves and their 3 young sons. In 1960, permission was granted and the family left Poland, knowing they would never see their immediate family again. Anna saved the shoes and overcoats they wore on their way to America as mementos of the journey. With strong faith and hard work, Anna and Frank established their new home and provided for their family. Until her retirement, Anna worked at Wausau Metals in the maintenance department. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending church picnics, polka dances and trips to the casino. Survivors include her sons, Stanley (Sue) Nowak, Kronenwetter, John (Luann) Nowak, Wausau, Joe (Jolene) Nowak, Kronenwetter; grandchildren Amy, Ann, Amanda; step grandchildren Mariah, Beth; great grandchildren Ashley, Cassie, Easton; step great granddaughter Courtney, and "soon to be" another great granddaughter. Besides her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4:00 until the time of services at the church. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Mount Terrace for the support and comfort they provided and a special thanks to Cheryl who was not only a caretaker but an extended member of our family.
