Angus "Curly" Brookhyser
87, of Athens, died Thursday May 8, 2003 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born October 21, 1915 in the Town of Weston, son of the late Bernhard and Armintha (Sillars) Brookhyser. On August 4, 1940, he married Josephine Habrich in Wausau. She survives.
Curly graduated from Wausau East High School, Wausau and moving to Eagle River to work at the Gamble Store. He then moved to Athens in 1954 and owned and operated the Gamble Store in Athens until the early 1970's. Curly was one of the original members of the Athens Lion's Club in which he held the office of secretary and president. Curly was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed boating.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Brookhyser, Athens; Sons Bernard Brookhyser, Montgomery, AL, Glenn (Debbie) Brookhyser, Mazomanie, Wendell (Sue) Brookhyser, Watertown, Karl Brookhyser, Athens; daughters Karen Brookhyser, Sacramento, CA, Gretchen Townsend, Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Wendorf, Rothschild.
Services were held on Monday May 12, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. The Rev. Donn Radde will officiate. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery, Eagle River.
