Angela (Angie) Szymanski, 68, Marathon, died Tuesday February 4, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a short battle with cancer.
She was born August 24, 1945 in Wausau, daughter of the late Anton and Lottie Burger. In 1963, she graduated from Newman High School, Wausau and on September 5, 1964, she married Stan Szymanski at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. He survives.
Angie dedicated her life to her family and their dairy-ginseng farm. Her hobbies included reading, keeping a daily diary, playing cards, polka dancing, bird watching and pie making. Special to her was the time she spent in her garden and she was passionate about her gladiolas. Above all, she loved her family, children and grandchildren.
Angie had been a member of state and national Gladiolas Societies as well as a member of the Marathon County Agricultural Society. Angie truly enjoyed polka dancing, was a member of the Polka Hall of Fame and was an avid listener of all the weekend radio polka programs.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Stan, her children, Sheila (Ted) Rude, Stevens Point, Jeff (Anna) Szymanski, Edgar, Chris (Ana) Szymanski, Marathon, Gail (Danny) Wilde, Wausau, Tracy (Rodney) Kaiser, Marathon; her grandchildren, Tom (Shauna), Amanda (Jesse) Fischer, Nichole (Joe) Westberg, Tyler, Nicholas, Johnathon, Isaiah, Xavier, Lillian, Jonathan, Clarissa, Stephanie, Erika, Carmen, Shelby, Kaitlin, Marissa and Alex, as well as her great grandchildren, Camden and Hayden. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Carolyn (Tony) Martino, Minn., George Burger, Edgar, Emily Noll, Racine, Pauline (Allen) Babler, Mich., Margie (Don) Nageman, Ind., Barbie (Roy) Olander, Georgia, Paul (Sandy) Burger, Weston, Steve (Jane) Burger, Tex., Joe Burger, Marathon and Pete Burger, Edgar; brothers-in-law, Kenny Lepak and Ted (Amy Lang) Szymanski, Joe (Pam) Osswald; sisters-in-law, Jackie (Terry) Pyan and Linda Szymanski, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Sandra Lepak and Patty Osswald and brother-in-law, Terry Szymanski.
The Funeral Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. Rev. Jerome Patric will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Marathon funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
