Andrew J. Knippel

Andrew "Andy" J. Knippel 84, Wausau, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Hospice House, Wausau. He was born January 25, 1927 in Wausau, son of the late Walter and Beatrice (Fleischman) Knippel. On April 11, 1953 he married his beloved wife Gloria Larson at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. She survives. Andy was a man of faith and family who was devoted to his church and had a love for classical music, trout fishing, gardening and coin collecting. Andy served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and worked as a printer for the Record Herald for 35 years where he worked alongside his father, brothers Walter and William and his uncle Robert. Survivors include his wife, Gloria, Wausau; children, Gregory Kennedy, Vacaville, California, Thomas (Kari) Knippel, Oshkosh, Mary (David) Schretlen, Monkton, Maryland, Judith (Timothy) Haskin, Tomahawk and Virginia Knippel, New London; grandchildren, Lukas, Brooke, Dustin, Stephanie, Paul, Matthew, Sarah, Claire, John, Katherine and William; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Raymond Knippel, Wausau, Carol Prain, Monroe and James (Kathy) Knippel, California and many special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Walter, John, William, Charles, Lawrence, Peter and Rosemary Pierschalla. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. John Robert Alphonse will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau where full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau and again on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
