Andrew R. Hettinga
89, Schofield, died Sunday November 9, 2008 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home.
He was born June 21, 1919, in Ringle, son of the late Riemer and Jenny (Sjoerdsma) Hettinga. A veteran of World War II, Andrew served his country in the U.S. Army with the Infantry in the South Pacific. He was a 63 year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau.
Andrew was employed for 40 years as a mechanical millwright for the Weyerhauser Corporation, Rothschild. As a longtime member of New Hope Community Church (Forestville), in the town of Easton, Andrew served as an Elder, with his first term at age 19. He served as the Building Chairman for the current worship site in 1976.
Among his many involvements, he served on the Board of Directors for 28 years of the Marathon-Rothschild Credit Union with 15 years as Chairman, served four years as a Director with the Wisconsin Credit Union League, served 12 years on the Board of Education with the DC Everest School District and was a member and past chairman of the Ringle Sportsman's Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Robert) Kolbeck, Wausau, a son, Vern (Sherry) Hettinga, Hudsonville, Mich., a daughter-in-law, Diane (Jerry) Hettinga-Thompson, Noblesville, Ind., a brother, Floyd (Laura) Hettinga, Hudsonville, Mich., two sisters-in-law, Norma Hettinga, LaCrosse, JoAnn Hettinga, Russellville, Ark., eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, six stepchildren, many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by three wives, Viola Geurink Hettinga, Grace Waite Hettinga and Elaine Edens Hettinga, a son, Roger J. Hettinga, three brothers, Roy, Theodore and Robert Hettinga and two sisters, Clara Hettinga and Emma Dyke.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 13, 2008 at New Hope Community Church, town of Easton. Rev. Dan Eisnor will officiate. Burial will be in Forestville Cemetery, town of Easton. Friends may call on Weds. from 4 -8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the New Hope Community Church.
