Alvin E. Pyan Jr.
64, Wausau, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at his home, after a long valiant struggle with leukemia.
He was born November 9, 1943 in Bremerton, Wash., son of the late Alvin Sr. and Marion (Foster) Pyan. On September 24, 1976 he married Joanne McDowell in Madison. She survives.
Alvin worked at Wausau Papers and also owned Marathon Upholstery. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Alvin enjoyed fishing and loved the Christmas season, especially watching his grandchildren open their gifts.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne, Wausau; daughter, Heidi Scheffler, Thorp; three step-children, Sharon (Mel) Kufahl, Merrill, Mike (Becky) McDowell, Waunekee and Kathy Prazuch, Weston; two grandchildren, Monica Pyan and Jesse Scheffler; four step-grandchildren, DuWayne Gavitt, Cody McDowell, Kyle McDowell and Chelsea Kufahl; three brothers, Harold (Brenda) Pyan, Merrill, James (Cathy) Pyan, Wausau and Donald (Lou Ann) Pyan, Wausau; two sisters, Mary (David) Reiderer, and Jane (Larry) Knoeck, both of Marathon and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a stepson, Tony McDowell.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. The Rev. Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Pittsville. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. and again Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
