Alvin Jansen

Alvin Jansen, 87, Athens, died Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Schofield, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born May 16, 1930, in Marathon, son of the late William and Laura (Vetter) Jansen. On June 22, 1955, he married Grace Osterbrink at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death April 17, 2017. Alvin proudly served his country during the Korean War with the Army Airborne. Prior to his retirement, Alvin and Grace were ginseng farmers in the town of Rib Falls. Alvin was also employed as a Federal Food Inspector with the USDA. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing and trips to the casino. Survivors include his children, Cathleen (Mike) Hargraves, Weston, Jean (Andy) Trudell, Tomahawk and James (Mary) Jansen, Wausau, his grandchildren, Jason (Becca) Hargraves, Michelle (Ken) Kaminski, Amy (Adam) Frei, Kristi Trudell and Ashley Jansen and Kyle (Shelby) Jansen, his great grandchildren, Bobbi and Brittany (Zack Krause) Hargraves, Leeland Kaminski and Teagan Trudell, two sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Schmidt, Athens and Ruth Neumann, Amherst. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marcell, Truman and Donald Jansen. A Private Memorial Mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon with burial in the parish cemetery. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, is in charge of arrangements.
