Alphonse P. Schuster,
88, 404 4th Street, Marathon, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Palliative Care, Marshfield.
He was born April 10, 1916 in the town of Hewitt, son of the late George and Helen (Ruplinger) Schuster. At the age of two his mother and family moved to Marathon from Bakerville, WI. On October 8, 1940 Alphonse married Irene Heil at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wausau. She survives.
Alphonse and his wife farmed and raised ginseng in the town of Cassel for 37 years. In 1983 they moved to Montana and raised beef cattle and ginseng until moving back to Wisconsin in 1990.
Upon returning to Wisconsin he continued to raise beef cattle, retiring in 1995. Alphonse was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was also a member of St. Leo's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Schuster, Marathon, two daughters Ernestine (Edward) Grohall, West Allis, and Jean Reisner, Tucson, Ariz; two sons Allen (Linda) Schuster, Schofield and Norbert (Alice) Schuster, Fall Creek, Wisconsin. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Marcel (Florence) Carr, Wausau; one sister, Catherine Lepak, West Bend, Wis.; and a sister-in-law Adeline Schuster of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie Lepak and three brothers, Nick, Victor and Alois Schuster.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday March 14, 2005 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
