Alma R. Gau
89, Wausau, found eternal peace Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Wellington Place, Wausau.
She was born June 24, 1919 in Halder, daughter of the late Robert and Appolonia (Dahlke) Boehm. On November 13, 1943 she married Oscar Gau at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1978.
Alma did housekeeping at various homes and businesses and was later employed at Job Service in Wausau. She was a member of St. Catherine Council, the NAIM Group and was involved with the ministry prayer group of Holy Name. An avid gardener, Alma loved growing flowers and most of all she enjoyed senior citizen 'day trips'. Since Alma did not drive, she was a well known patron of the WATS for over 50 years. She will be fondly remembered by her sense of humor, as well as her enjoyment of going for long walks and her card playing, especially with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Shirley (Frank) Iczkowski, Schofield, Celine (Dale) Danielewicz, Wausau, Robert (Linda) Gau, Rothschild, Rita (Xo Terra) Gau, Arizona, seven grandchildren, Michelle Stalter, Sherry (Jeff) Woyak, Tricia (Tony) Nielsen, Kristen Danielewicz, Tara (Matt) Hill, Jacob Gau, Christina Gau and three great grandchildren, Samantha Steppert, Alex Woyak and Collin Nielsen. Alma is further survived by three brothers, Mark (Joan) Boehm, Wausau, Leonard (LaVerna) Boehm, Eau Claire and Eugene Boehm, Schofield and one sister, Cecelia Boehm, Dubuque, Iowa.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her great grandson, Nicholas J. Larson and one sister, Agnes Boehm.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. The Rev. Gerald Pehler O.F.M. Cap. will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
We wish to express our appreciation for the wonderful care mom received at Wellington Place for the past five years, especially the last several weeks. We would also like to thank hospice for there visits, Dr. Suto for her care and to a near dear friend Bernie Stremikus from palliative care.
Mom will now rest in peace.
