Alicia L. Meverden

December 27, 1925 — July 24, 2016

Alicia L. Meverden, 90, Wausau, died Sunday, July 24, 2016 under the care of Interim Hospice at Azura Memory Care, Wausau. She was born December 27, 1925 in Hatley, daughter of the late Robert and Martha (Stoltz) Steinke. On November 19, 1949 she married Irvin "Bud" Meverden at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1998. Alicia was the oldest of eleven children and after losing their mother at a young age she raised her 9 siblings followed by her own children. She was an excellent cook and baker, baking endless dozens of cookies around the holidays to give as gifts. Some of her other enjoyments included gardening, canning and listening to Polka music. Alicia had a love for all animals and made sure everything was ironed from bed sheets to dress shirts. In her younger years, she worked at Marathon Battery as well as Wausau Memorial Hospital. Alicia was a quiet women who was an excellent listener and above all else loved her family and cherished her time spent with them. Survivors include her children, Dennis (Mary Lou) Meverden, Patch Grove, David (Jeanne) Meverden, Tomahawk, Donna (John) Spangler, Mosinee, Douglas Meverden, Wausau and Donald (Christine) Meverden, Kronenwetter; grandchildren, Ashley (Kathy) Fritsch, Autumn (Chad) Sapinski, Nicole (Drew) Williams, Aimee (Alan) VanDinter, Nickolas (Kara) Meverden and Brayden (Crystal) Meverden; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernie Steinke, Minocqua; sisters, Delores Pyke and Beatrice Kurth, both of Wausau; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Stanke and Joyce Steinke, many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Irvin, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Gary Desotelle, granddaughter, Amber Desotelle, brothers, Joseph, Rupert, Leonard, Nicholas and Frank Steinke, Eugene Stanke, and sister, Virginia Anklam. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Robert Schaller will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marathon County Humane Society. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
