Alice "Allie" Salzman
66, 4610 Lahr Ave., Wausau, died peacefully Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at her home.
She was born June 23, 1937 in Athens, daughter of the late Peter and Louise (Kraniak) Wanke. On September 10, 1960, she married Leonard Salzman at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. He survives.
Prior to her marriage, Alice was employed at Marathon Corporation, Wausau then was a homemaker and a full-time mother. She later was employed as Teachers Aid at Weston School then Iozzo's Italian Restaurant, Weston. Alice enjoyed rummage saling, bird watching, gardening, canning, bowling, crossword puzzles, counted cross-stitching and was a great cook. She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters.
Besides her husband, Leonard, Wausau, she was survived by seven children, Mark Salzman, Wausau, Marie Salzman, Kenosha, Karen Hass, Wausau, John Salzman, Wausau, Anthony Salzman, Hatley, Thomas Salzman, Wausau and Patricia Salzman, Wausau; she was a loving grandmother to Steven and Shannon Salzman; survivors also include two sisters, Lucy (Fred) Laher, Pueblo, Colo. and Mary (Art) Kirchgassner, Waterford; six brothers, Herbert (Kaye) Wanke, Marshall, Montana, David (Ginny) Wanke, Kewaskum, William (Elaine) Wanke, Kokomo, Indiana, Peter (Luanne) Wanke, Medford, John (Ellen) Wanke, Missoula, Montana, James (Karen) Wanke, Menominee Falls; one sister-in-law, Celine Wanke, West Bend; many nieces and nephews and all the special friends that called her "Ma".
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Salzman and a brother, Ervin Wanke.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Stephen Gross will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Sixth Strret funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau.
