Alan Lee Weiher

Alan Lee Weiher, 57, Athens, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, after suffering a heart attack. Son of the late Clifford and Bernice Weiher, he was born on July 16, 1954, in Wausau. He attended Corlad Elementary School, up until the school consolidated and students from the country were bused to Athens. After finishing elementary school, Alan attended Athens High School and graduated with the class of 1972. He attended and graduated from the technical college in Antigo with an Associate Degree in automotive repair and refinishing. Later, Alan attended the Brown Institute, where he majored in computer technology. A jack of all trades, Alan worked for many years as a welder at Drott Manufacturing in Wausau. In 1990, he moved to Minnesota where he worked for the city of Eagan and the city of Burnsville, where he repaired and maintained heavy equipment. After the birth of his son, Jesse, Alan moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to his family, and was employed by Simek Construction, where he was a heavy equipment operator. After a traumatic motorcycle accident in 1998, and a long stay in the intensive care unit, he slowly regained his mobility and memory, endured many painful operations and slowly regained his strength. With the constant support and love of his family, he slowly moved along the road to recovery. Alan's hobbies included hunting, fishing, repairing cars and painting. An avid air brush designer, he did detail painting on many motorcycles. Alan loved music, enjoyed playing the trumpet and watching old movies. His witty personality, his ability to tell jokes and stories, and his ability to laugh will be missed by his family. He was proud of his son and always interested in his niece and nephew's accomplishments. Alan is survived by his son, Jesse L. Weiher, Milwaukee; two sisters, Debra L. Weiher-Traas (Michael), Appleton and Sherri (Bob) Strasser, Wausau; his niece and nephew, Nicole and Brett Strasser; two special cousins, Larry (Carol) Underwood, Medford and Daryl (Lynn) Stremer, Waunakee and their children, Stephanie (Andy) Fountaine, and Lou and Valerie Stremer. Besides his parents, Alan was preceded in death by a sister, Janice; and his godmother, Elvira Stremer. Funeral services will be at Noon on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Christ United Church, Athens. Rev. William Wineke will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
