Agnes Theresa Starzinski Our beautiful mother was peacefully called to her Heavenly home on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. Agnes Theresa Starzinski, 88, passed away at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center, Weston. Agnes was born March 28, 1922, in the town of Cassel, the daughter of the late Frank and Pelagia (Gesicki) Bargender. She married Peter Starzinski on Feb. 14, 1942, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. He preceded her in death May 17, 1977. On Aug. 7, 1987, she married Joseph Gavinski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. He preceded her in death on the feast day of St. Agnes, Jan. 21, 2006. As a young girl she was a nanny for the Dr. Delos Prehn Sr. family, Wausau, where she acquired many skills of style, class and etiquette, which she carried throughout her lifetime. At age 19, she married Peter and farmed in the town of Cassel for 35 years. She enjoyed working hard with Peter outdoors making the farm successful. She loved animals and nature. She had beautiful flower gardens and made extraordinary homemade meals. She had a creative ability of making something out of nothing. Agnes was a former Advisory president for the Sacred Heart Church and was instrumental in the building of the present day church. She was a member of Sacred Heart P.C.C.W. Agnes was dedicated to caring for the flag and flowers at church. She was avid leader of the Cassel 4-H Club and judge for the Wisconsin Valley Fair. With her neighbor and dear friend, Clara, they made gorgeous quilts, delicious kielbasa and spent many hours together. As a senior citizen, she raised ginseng for 20 years. She traveled around the world with her husband, Joe. Joe was a loving companion and he brought much joy to her life. She was survived by one loving son and five loving daughters, Suzanne (Robert) Metz, Hazelhurst, Alvina (Don) Lutz, Gary Starzinski and Betty (Lawrence) Blume, all of Marathon, Mary Jane (Bob) Sydow, Marshfield, and Beverly (Glenn) Kafka, Stratford; and 15 grandchildren, Steve (Carolyn) Metz, Christine (Robb) Battist, Dan (Michele) Metz, Marcus and Andrea Metz, Rick and Andy Starzinski, Nicholas and Samantha Sydow, Lauralyn, Ben, Philip and Anna Blume, Christopher and Tiffany Kafka; and seven great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Stephanie and Ethan Metz, Alex and Harrison Battist, Victoria and Nicholas Metz. One sister-in-law, Mary Starzinski, Marathon, also survives her. She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands; three sisters, Anna Skrzypchak, Mary Pospyhala and Theresa Myszka; and four brothers, Frank, John, Andrew and Tony Bargender. Agnes was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Ignatz and Mary (Sekorski) Starzinski, Margaret Erdman, Mary Teresinski, Clara Drewek, Lucy Kruesel, and John, Stanley and Alex Starzinski. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, where there will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Rennes Health and Rehab Center, The Harmony Living Center, Ministry Health Hospice Services, Father Barnabas Kyea, Father Joe Diermeier and Father Donald Berg.
