Agnes I. Heier

Agnes I. Heier 89, 312 Mueller St., Athens, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at her home. She was born May 19, 1915 in the town of Reitbrock, daughter of the late Adolph and Josephine (Rosner) Heier. Agnes was clerk at the former Semon's Fair Store and at the Athens IGA for many years. She had been the treasurer for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Athens since 1949, was treasurer for the National Catholic Order of Foresters for over 20 years and was also a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Agnes volunteered at the Village Library and at the St. Anthony School Library, where she worked with the children on stamp collecting. Because she loved knitting mittens and giving them away she affectionately became known as the "Mitten Lady". Survivors include one brother, Sylvester (Norma) Heier, Athens, four sisters, Marie (Leon) Mathwick, Whitewater, Gertrude Misiewicz, Milwaukee, Marcella Sobie, St. Francis and Henrietta (Harvey) Klumpyan, Wausau, 33 nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and George Heier and one sister Helen Benoit. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2004, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
