Agnes H. Atkinson

Agnes "Aggie" Atkinson age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, in Wausau. She was born July 6, 1914 in White Earth, ND, daughter of the late Haaken Knutson and Anna (Melbybratten) Hovey. The family moved to Madison, where she attended grade school through the 8th grade. She worked as a waitress and in a laundry for a time. She met Ralph Atkinson at a dance and they were married on April 22, 1939. She was a full time homemaker, helping out with her husband's furniture business in Stoughton. They moved to the town of Dunn, where they built a home. Ralph became an electrician and she held the fort down while he was away on many long distant jobs. Ralph and Agnes were self taught organists and loved to play. Agnes filled in as organist at the Stoughton Country Club on occasion. Among her many interests, she loved to draw, dance and entertain family and friends. Survivors include, her son, John (JoAnn) Atkinson, Schofield; her daughter-in-law, Mary (Jerry Nichol) Atkinson, Madison/Wisconsin Dells; seven grandchildren, Rick, Forrest, Amy, Cindy, Julian, Peter and Elbie Atkinson; five great grandchildren, Marissa, Austin, Tristan, Hannah and Lee; and brought to the family through marriage, Kevin, Eric, Alisha, Devon and Justine. Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph on August 24, 1999; her son, Walter on October 12, 1991; three brothers, Conrad, Henry and Otto; and two sisters, Molly and Bertha. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2005 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Avenue, Stoughton. Rev. Richard Halom will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Stoughton. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the burial at the VFW in Stoughton.
