Adolph Groshek
We lost a remarkable man on April 19, 2012 when Adolph Groshek, 92, of Wausau passed away. Adolph was born in Rothschild, on June 15, 1919 to Nicholas and Louise (Hanz) Groshek. He married Loraine Schmitt on March 27, 1941 in Waucon, Iowa.
Adolph proudly served his country from 1943 until 1946 during World War II as a platoon sergeant in the Army's 343rd Infantry 86th Black Hawk Division. He received decorations and citations for his service in the American, European and Pacific theaters. While in Germany, he was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau.
Adolph worked as a supervisor at Curtis Door and Window Company and Connor Cabinet Company. He was an amazingly creative handyman who could fix just about anything.
There was nowhere Adolph would rather be than with his family enjoying the cottage he built with his wife. Whether hunting, fishing, snowmobiling or simply relaxing on the cottage porch, Adolph's love of "God's Country" was apparent. He also enjoyed many winter vacations with his wife in Florida.
Adolph was the patriarch of his family and was a good, strong, loving and caring man. He had a heart-of-gold and a great love for his family.
Adolph is survived by his wife, and love of his life of 71 years, Loraine; cherished daughter Judith Walker-Van Dreel, Wisconsin Rapids; grandsons, Todd Walker, Christopher Walker; granddaughter, Dawn (Ben) Sabin; great-grandchildren, Ryan Walker, Jeffrey Walker, Dane Wudel and Alyssa Walker; brother-in-law, James Light and sister-in-law, Pat Groshek.
He is now joined with his parents; brother, Leonard, sister, Cyrillia; granddaughter, Linda; son-in-law, Donavon; and three infant siblings.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
He was loved and respected by many, and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace until we meet again. We love you.
