Walter H. Hannemann

Walter H. Hannemann, 91, Wausau, died Sunday February 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 30, 1919, in the town of Wien, son of the late William and Susan (Weber) Hannemann. On June 18, 1946, he married Arlene Hall at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives. Walter and his wife, Arlene were dairy farmers in the Edgar area prior to their retirement. Through the years, Walter enjoyed many different activities including music, traveling, reading, woodworking, playing dartball and Polka dances. He mentored for the Attic Correctional Services and the Juvenile Shelter Home. Walter was a founding member and project leader for the Wien Wildcats 4-H club. He was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was involved at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau and St. John Catholic Church, Edgar, as a Eucharistic Minister and usher. In addition to farming, Walter sold farm equipment and silos through his business Walt's Equipment earning many sales awards. He served on the Board of Directors of the Edgar Coop. Walter possessed great zest for life and had a wonderful sense of humor. He also enjoyed the time spent with "the gang," that gathered to celebrate fun times, such as birthdays, anniversaries and a good game of sheepshead. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Arlene, his children, Marilyn (David) Juillerat, Pleasanton, Calif., Gary Hannemann, Pagosa Springs, Colo., Jane Hannemann, Chicago, James (Rhonda) Hannemann, Edgar, Les (Mary) Hannemann, Davenport, Wash., Gail (Michael) Doering, Winona, Minn., David (Christene) Hannemann, Edgar, Kathryn Hannemann, Milwaukee, Tracy Hannemann, Milwaukee, 13 grandchildren, Kate, Thomas & Matthew Juillerat; Evan & Austin Hannemann; Leslie & Christine Hannemann; Jacob, William, Lucas & Adam Hannemann; Hannah & Aidan Doering. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Rademacher and Cedonia Munes. The funeral mass will be celebrated Noon, Friday February 25, 2011 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Friday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a parish rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stewart Avenue funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ministry Home Care Hospice, T.L.C. and Father Steven Brice for the outstanding care given to Walter.
