Verna E. Behrendt, 91, Wausau, died Friday January 3, 2014, at her home, under the loving care of her daughter and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born September 5, 1922, in the town of Halsey, daughter of the late Gerhardt and Hattie (Hardt) Boelter. On April 26, 1941, she married Carl E. Behrendt in Athens. He preceded her in death January 15, 2011.
Verna was a homemaker and had been a member of the former Wausau Merrill German Club. Among her favorite things to do were, bowling, crocheting, baking, flower gardening and bird watching.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Behrendt, Wausau, a brother, Donald (Yvonne) Boelter, Oxford, sisters-in-law, Annetta Behrendt, Wausau, Avila Boelter, Markesan, Genevieve Behrendt, Tucson, brother-in-law, Edward Behrendt, Reserve New Mexico and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Brehmer and a brother, Gordon Boelter.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Noon, Wednesday January 8, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Building Fund or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
