Valeria V. Jaeger

Valeria V. Jaeger, 81, Sun City West, Ariz, and Wausau, died Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. She was born April 3, 1922, in Wausau, daughter of the late Herman and Ella (Prahl) Sternberg. She married Roy Jaeger on December 2, 1942. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2000. Val graduated from Wausau Senior High School (East) in 1941. She worked for Johnson Hills Department Store, Wausau from 1963 to 1972 before she and Roy retired and moved to Sun City West, Ariz. She was a Wausau native who gave of her time and energy to local organizations. Val was a member of the Franklin School PTA and participated in many of the Stunt Night productions, and was a cub scout den mother. One of her greatest joys was teaching elementary sunday school classes at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. She was a member of the Montgomery Plant Post # 10 American Legion Auxilliary. Val participated in many different sports, she was a member of the champion bowling league team for the Wausau Elks Club, league champion in golf at the Wausau Country Club, and was a member of the couples league at the Wausau Curling Club. In addition to sports, Val was known as an excellent bridge player and teacher, teaching the game to young women at the YWCA. Survivors include two sons, Roy E. (Mary) Jaeger, Jr., Dakota Dunes, S.D., Jay A. (Gale) Jaeger, Wausau; four grandchildren, one great grandchild; and a sister, Evelyn Erickson, Wausau. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2003 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. The Rev. Donald E. Baumann will officiate. Burial will be in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix. The family will greet friends in the Guild Hall of the church following services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to St. Paul's United Church of Christ visiting ministers or elevator fund.
