Stella M. Nowicki
Now age 95, Athens, went to her heavenly home Weds. evening March 26, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born November 9, 1912, in Pittston, Penn., daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Pajak) Handloski. At an early age, she and her family moved to Chicago, Ill. From there they moved to Wausau and later to Athens. On October 25, 1932, she married Joseph Nowicki Sr. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. He preceded her in death December 11, 1985.
Stella and her husband Joseph owned and operated a dairy farm and logging business in the town of Rietbrock. For many years she was the bookkeeper for the businesses. Among her favorite past times were going up north and fishing. She also enjoyed playing cards, knitting, traveling and most of all being with her family. She taught us how to laugh, live and love.
Stella was a loving mother to daughters, Mary Ann Nowicki, West Allis, Helen (Steve) Bogaczyk, Stevens Point, Phyllis (Melvin) Mader, Marathon, Theresa Schwartz, Newark, Del., Christine (John) Delago, Wausau, Bernice (Jeff) Manhardt, Eau Claire, sons, Joe (Jane) Nowicki, Edward (Mary) Nowicki and Richard Nowicki, all of Athens, 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, a half sister, Agnes Bonin, Athens and a sister-in-law, Irene Lenard-Klimpke, Edgar.
Besides her parents and husband, Stella was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, a half brother, three step sisters and three step brothers.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday March 31, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. The Very Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the Athens funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony School.
Pallbearers for the service will be grandsons, Brian Bogaczyk, Greg Nowicki, Joshua & Jonathan Schwartz, Jason Delago and Michael Manhardt.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services as well as the staff of the Palliative Care at Wausau Hospital.
