Shirley Hartel
67, 4205 N. County Road O, Wausau died Friday, August 24, 2007 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at the Hospice House.
She was born May 6, 1940 in Chicago, daughter of Mabel Knight and the late Irving Goehry. On April 4, 1959 she married Robert Hartel in Chicago. He survives.
Shirley first came to Wausau in 1983 from the Round Lake/Fox Lake area to work for the Marriott Hotel Corporation. She was instrumental with setting up and opening the Westwood Conference Center, which was owned by the former Wausau Insurance Co. Shirley retired from there in 2005 with 25 years of service.
Shirley's entire life was dedicated to her three children and her five grandchildren. Besides spending time with her family she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and going fishing.
Survivors include her husband Robert L. Hartel, Wausau, her mother, Mabel Goehry, Libertyville, Ill., her children, Christine (Todd) Zastrow, Joanne Parker and Scott (Lisa) Hartel, all of Wausau, five grandchildren, Bradley and Nicholas Hartel, Samantha and Danielle Zastrow and Christopher Noble, her siblings, Gloria Kosmiki, Des Plaines, Ill., Gerald (Helen) Goehry, Chicago, Patricia Defiguerido, Palatine, Ill., Neil (Marge) Goehry and Katherine (Bob) Milchuck, both of Wildwood, Ill.
Besides her father she was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Goehry.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
