Paul Robert Knickelbein

Paul R. Knickelbein, 86, Schofield, died Monday October 9, 2017 at Copperleaf Memory Care, Schofield. Paul was born Dec. 14, 1930 to the late Paul and Bee (Clawitter) Knickelbein in Milwaukee. He married Brigitte Krahnke on March 16, 1954 in New York City. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2012. Paul served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, in Germany. Upon return to Milwaukee he worked for several paint stores in the area. In the 1960s he moved to Wausau and became owner of Paul's Esser Paint store and hung "billboard" signs in northern Wisconsin for several years. He was later employed with UW Marathon for 20 years in maintenance, until his retiring. Paul had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help people with his many talents. Paul was a member of the VFW Burns Post 388 Wausau. Collecting vintage post cards was one of his favorite hobbies. Survivors include his two sisters, Judy (Tony) Cabarles, Chicago, IL. And Barbara (Robert) Hagstrom, Bossier City, LA; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jim and Jo Prozinski and many other friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 West Stewart Ave., Wausau. Rev. Brian Mason will officiate. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Friedenshain Cemetery in the township of Berlin, at a later time. Burns Post 388 will give military honors to Paul on Saturday, after the service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
