Lyndon Oelke, 83, town of Stettin, died at his home Wednesday, January 13, 2010 of natural causes.
He was born at home on August 12, 1926 in the town of Stettin, son of the late Reinhart and Elsie (Zahn) Oelke. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1944. As a young man he met Geraldine Leistikow at a country dance and on June 12, 1948 they were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning.
A man who loved the land, Lyndon worked on the family dairy farm his entire life. Together with his wife they built a loving family teaching the values of hard work and honesty. When not working on the farm or spending time with his family, Lyndon enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Geraldine; seven sons, Robert (Anne) Oelke, Randolph, William (Kai) Oelke, Marathon, John (Cindy) Oelke, Stockholm, Jeffrey (Carmen) Oelke, Cazenovia, David Oelke, Marathon, Mark (Kim) Oelke, Spring, TX, and Michael (Sylvia Hysong) Oelke, Houston, TX; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Teske, Hamburg, and Shirely (Martin) Hannemann, Rib Mountain; one brother, Glenn (Elaine) Oelke, Marathon; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday January 16, 2010 at Trinity Evengelical Lutheran Church, 1008 N. 120th Ave., Wausau, WI. Rev. Philip J. Bogen will officiate. Burial will be in Stettin Christian Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m.
