Lois O. Olson

Lois O. Olson, 97, 1211 Arthur Street, Wausau, died Monday May 9, 2011 at Four Winds Lodge Assisted Living, in Verona. She was born November 26, 1913, in Athens, daughter of the late Conrad and Anna (Pratt) Erickson. On September 6, 1941, she married Roland A. Olson in Abbottsford. He preceded her in death June 4, 1979. Mom was an enormously kind hearted woman, well known for her warm cinnamon bread and love of walking. She played baseball with her children and grandchildren, surveyed the world with a twinkle in her eye from her front porch swing, and kept the postal service in business with a constant flow of letters to her many friends. As a young woman she taught school in a one room school house in Marathon County. Later, she became a Registered Nurse who worked with the Navajo Indians in Ganado, Arizona in the late 1930's. She worked for many years as a Visiting Home Nurse in Wausau. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Survivors include her children, Charles E. (Jeanne) Olson, Potomac, Md., Roland M. (Phoebe Blackman) Olson, Mt. Horeb, Andrew (fiance Joy Gander) Olson, Madison, Margaret (Tom) Klepfer, Verona, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a Sister-in-law, Marge Erickson, Athens. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew, November 14, 1985, three sisters and one brother. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
