Lloyd Bunkelman, 88, Athens, died on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, with family at his side.
Lloyd was born October 3, 1926 in Milan, to Chester and Tillie (Suennen) Bunkelman on the home farm. He attended country school in Milan through the 8th grade and graduated from Abbotsford
High School. He enjoyed playing baseball in the local towns. The team knew him as "Jonsey".
He married Carmeletta Schreiber on September 25, 1947. In the early 1950's, they bought the Lefler farm in Milan. For 4A½ years he worked at Kraft Foods, then moved to Athens where he farmed full-time until his retirement and then moved to town.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Mary (Bruce) Faulkner, Athens, Rita (Rusty) Shoquist, St. Croix Falls, Tom (Florine) Bunkelman, Edgar, James (Carol) Bunkelman, Athens, Robert (Deanna) Bunkelman, Excelsior, Minn. and Matthew (Lucy) Bunkelman, Medford; his grandchildren, Katina, Brice, Lloyd, Ashley, Larry, Christine, Brooke, Brent, Brodie, Ben, Jason, Jesse, Danielle, Alyssa, Kyle, Brady, Cody, Kelsey, Macy and John; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rosalind Kramer, Betty Scheffler, Darlene Bunkelman and Janice Houts; special friend, Joan Mader; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Tillie Bunkelman; wife, Carmeletta Bunkelman; daughter, Jane Mattox; sister, Lorraine Soard; brothers, Raymond, Wilmer, Harold, Chester, Bernard, Duane and Gerald.
Pallbearers are Brice Faulkner, Lloyd Faulkner, Larry Hoen, Brodie Bunkelman, Ben Jahnke, Kyle Bunkelman and John Bunkelman.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Paul Hoffman and Rev. Charles Hiebl will co-preside. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
