Jean Ione Stahel 71, town of Stettin, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 under the care of the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, following a two year battle with cancer. She was born May 19, 1936 in Rib Mountain, daughter of the late Emil and Verna (Ristow) Tesch. On June 25, 1955, she married Merlin Stahel at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. He survives. Jean was a homemaker, farmer and baker. She loved to garden and had a beautiful yard with hundreds of flowers that were enjoyed by everyone. Among her many interests, she enjoyed bowling, polka dancing, shopping, collecting dolls and playing sheepshead. Over the years, Jean baked and decorated many beautiful cakes for family, friends and the bakery at 2510 Restaurant. For every holiday, she took great pride in decorating her home and yard festively. She loved fishing with her husband and grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends. Jean was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilliary Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon. Survivors include her husband, Merlin Stahel, town of Stettin; one son, Gerald (Carrie Salyers) Stahel, Marathon; three daughters, Roxanne (Chuck) Kaiser, Robin (Steven) Bloom and Renee (Paul) Mucha, all of Marathon; ten grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Stahel, Jamie (Rick) Weiler, Jeremy (Heidi Leffel) Stahel, Kurt (Amber Huebsch) Behnke, Derek Behnke, Andrew Bloom, Amy (Julio) Cruz and Beau, Luke and Skye Mucha; two step-grandchildren, Cody and Samantha Salyers; seven great-grandchildren, Shynia, Cheyanne and Dakota Stahel, Cody and Caylee Weiler, Carlie Stahel and Marcos Cruz; one brother, Kenneth (Moe) Tesch, The Dalles, Ore.; three sisters, Dorothy (Tony) Ivaska, Eagle River, Georgiania (Jake) Mohr, Balsam Lake, Wis. And Diana (John) Damitz, Nikiski, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Delbert and Alvin Tesch; and one sister, Rose Radke. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. Rev. Clarence Gall will officiate. Burial will be in the Stettin Christian Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be an American Legion Ladies Auxilliary Memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Peterson and the staff at the Aspirus Cancer Center, Dr. Schneider and the staff at the Kidney Dialysis Center and the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the wonderful care she received.
