Irene Sliwicki

Irene Sliwicki 88, Wausau, died Monday December 12, 2011 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born August 22, 1923, in Stevens Point, daughter of the late Michael and Johanna (Wanta) Groholski. On November 10, 1945, she married Edward Sliwicki in Stevens Point. He preceded her in death October 11, 1994. Prior to their retirement, Irene and Edward farmed for over 40 years on Townline Road east of Wausau. Among her favorite things to do were playing cards, going out to eat and family parties. Above all, she loved the time spent with her family. Survivors include her children, Elaine (Richard) Reinstein, Brandon, Fla., Roger (Deborah) Sliwicki, Wausau, James (Sande) Sliwicki, Wausau, Rita Smecko, McFarland, four granddaughters, Robin Birkenmeier, Stephanie (Max) Norton, Lindsey (Matthew) Glodowski and Melissa Williams; seven great grandchildren, Ellyn Lohmar, Will and Aj Birkenmeier, Jack and Reilly Norton, Brianna and Cade Glodowski; two step grandsons, Steven and Michael Reinstein; two sisters, Terry (Kenneth) Brezinski, Stevens Point, Angeline (Marty) Fahey, San Lorenzo, Calif., one brother, John (Judy) Groholski, Stevens Point, two brothers-in-law, Luke Wojtalwiez and Don Faast. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, August, Joseph and Myron Groholski and four sisters, Dee Groholski, Jean Thompson, Alice Faast and Lorraine Wojtalwiez. A memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 15, 2011 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
