Evelyn M. Wachtl

May 21, 1918 — July 18, 2016

Evelyn M. "Cotey" Wachtl, 98, Wausau, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Benedictine Living Center, Wausau. She was born May 21, 1918 in Merrill, daughter of the late Percy and Ella (Zueske) Cotey. On May 4, 1946, she married Kenneth Wachtl in Merrill. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1956. Evelyn was a self-employed beautician for over 45 years, operating Evelyns' Beauty Salon until 1981. She continued at various salons until her retirement at the age of 70. Evelyn enjoyed playing golf and golfed at Rib Mountain Golf Course in the Ladies League. She also loved to bowl and proudly sponsored a bowling league for many years. Evelyn took great pride in her appearance, especially her hair which was always perfect. She enjoyed traveling and seeing her family and friends. Also listening to music, especially Daniel O' Donnell and Willie Nelson. Survivors include, four children, Nancy (Peter) Kroll, Madison, Patrick Wachtl, Madison, David Wachtl, Tomahawk and Cassie (Ron Klein) Wachtl, Stevens Point; two grandsons, Christopher (Amy) Kroll and Michael (Alicia) Kroll; five great grandchildren, Carinna, Mia, Boden, Wesley and Spencer Kroll; one sister, Gail Diver, San Diego, Cal.; and Peter's nephew, Craig Hopp and Hollie Crenshaw and their children, Chad and Beth. Besides her parents and husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina Krueger and Helen Harr, one brother, Dean Cotey and a sister-in-law, Lucille Cotey. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Alan Burkhardt will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's name. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
