Passed away peacefully at Aspirus Wausau Hospital on September 24, 2010 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Alice (Sniegoski) for 62 years. He was born January 27, 1921 in Wausau to Dr. Louis Podruch, Sr. and Catherine (Molter) Podruch. Loving father of Mary (Ron) Retzke, LeeAnn Podruch(Dave Johnson) Paul Podruch, and Lucy(Joe) Conard. He is also survived by his brother Dr.Phillip Podruch and sister, Mary Alice Krier. He is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Terri Podruch. Louis was the proud grandfather of Jonathan (Monica), Anna and Michal Retzke, Emily and Alex Johnson, Mick Podruch, and Bennett and Claire Conard and great grandson, Lucas Retzke.
Louis attended University of Notre Dame for pre professional studies and graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1943. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a dental officer in the army. After the war he returned home to Wausau where he practiced dentistry with his father from 1946-49. He was active in dental associations serving countless hours on many committees and as president of the Wisconsin Dental Association in 1972-73. He also was a member of the American Dental Association as a council member and delegate. He was recognized by the WDA with their Outstanding Service Award in 1980. Louis was a member of Delta Sigma Delta, The American Academy of Dental Practice Administration, and was a fellow in the International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy.
He served many community groups including the Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis Club, Serra Club and St Mary's Parish.
Louis practiced dentistry in Wausau for 45 years and was grateful for the people he served. He always considered them his friends. His faith and family were most important to him throughout his lifetime.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Comfort Care & Hospice Services Aspirus Wausau Hospital or St. Michael Parish.
