Dr. Elgin S. "Doc" Scobell
84, 713 N. 12th Avenue, Wausau, died Friday, December 8, 2006 at his home.
He was born January 17, 1922 in Wagner, South Dakota, son of the late Lloyd and Bessie (Fenzel) Scobell. On July 1, 1946 he married Alma R. "Amy" Czerney in Yankton, South Dakota. She survives.
Doc was self employed as a veterinarian worked for more than 20 years with the Division of Animal Health for the State of Wisconsin. He was also a member of Wausau Elks Lodge # 248, Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, both of Wausau and the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association. Doc had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed to go hunting or fishing but always found time to volunteer for many community activites.
Doc proudly served his country as a B-26 Pilot in the United States Airforce during World War II earning many medals including the Purple Heart.
Survivors besides his wife Amy Scobell, Wausau include his children, Susan (Scott) Watson, Rhinelander, Patrick (Lisa) Scobell, Wausau and Rand (Tana) Scobell, Merrill, three grandchildren, Mitchell and Rilley Scobell and Ivan Ventzke.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Inurnment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church.
