Dorothy Mae Teresa Krueger 77, Athens, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Medford, after 7 years of battling a brain tumor. She was born October 27, 1929 in Appleton, daughter of Harold and Elsie (Ewan) Scheffler. On June 12, 1948 she married John "Jack" Krueger in Athens. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2005. Jack and Dorothy farmed in Athens for 25 years. She was a farm wife, house wife and mother. Dorothy enjoyed wallpapering, staining and varnishing and did this work until 2000 due to health reasons. She was a member of the Athens Old Timers Band for 54 years and also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. In her spare time she loved to bowl and was very good at it. She enjoyed many hobbies with her husband including playing cards with their card club and dancing to polkas with their polka club. They also owned a cottage together on Lake Esadore where they spent a lot of time fishing, telling fishing stories that Dorothy's fish was always biggest, swimming and most importantly spending quality time with her family. Survivors include four children, Karen (Neil) Bergmann, Douglas (Jean) Krueger both of Athens, Timothy Krueger (special friend Heather Bunkelman), Hammond and Kurt (JoAnn) Krueger, River Falls; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Keith) Weiler, Tanya (Chad) Ellenbecker, Tasha (Aaron) Stencil and Travis Bergmann, all of Athens, Justin Krueger, Hudson and Crystal (Chris Gardipee) Krueger, Mosinee; four great grandchildren, Colten, Kiera, Chase and Celina; brothers, Ken (Betty) Scheffler, Athens, Myron (Darlene) Scheffler, Edgar and David (Emmy) Scheffler, Appleton; sister, Marion (Fred) Kroll, Marathon and many other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Jack she was preceded in death by an infant daughter. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Andrew Alberts will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Krueger family for a memorial fund that is being established. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. We love and miss you mom and we will always treasure you in our hearts. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff at Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Medford for the wonderful care that was given to Dorothy during her stay there and also to the many friends and family that visited her.
