Donald Charles Johnson

Donald C. Johnson, 726 N. Third Avenue, Edgar, died Thursday, August 22, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield. Donald was born February 5, 1918, in St. Paul, MN, son of the late Siewart and Mary Ann (Long) Johnson. He married Valeria Glowacki, March 2, 1946, in Weyerhauser. She survives. Donald was the owner/operator of Johnson Oil Company from 1951 until his retirement. He was a member of the Edgar Village Board and Chief Engineer of the Edgar Volunteer Fire Department. He was named the Edgar Jaycee Citizen of the Year in1988 and was the former chairman for the Edgar Homecoming Parade. Donald served his country in the United States Army's 209th Military Police in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. While in the Army he received a Good Conduct Medal, an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, a Philippine Liberation Award, a Meritorious Unit Award and a Carbine SS Medal. He was a member of the Edgar American Legion and the Edgar VFW. Besides his wife, Valeria he is survived by two sons and five daughters, Sister Barbara Johnson, Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist, Meriden, CT; Ronald and Debbie Johnson, Onalaska, and their children, Brett, Travis and Lindsay; Karen and Dale Paul, Edgar and their children, Heather, Forrest and Zachary; Gail and Phillip Fieber, Menomonie and their children, Meghan, Jordan and Reid; Roger and Colleen Johnson, Altoona, and their children, Ryan and Yasmin; Nancy and John Morey, Racine, and their children Valerie and Brian Noll, John and Erin; Susan and Alan Schieve, West Bend and their children Logan, Kegan and Tanner; one brother, Robert Johnson, New Brighton, MN; brother-in-law, Ray Koehler, Fond du Lac. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Johnson, and his sister, Dorothy Koehler. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30a.m., Monday, August 26, 2002, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar. The Rev. Bernard Raschke and the Rev. Donald Berg will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar, and again on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Edgar Funeral Home.
