Charles L. J. Ramaker

Charles L. J. Ramaker 85, Edgar, died May 29, 2004 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. He was born November 4, 1918 in Edgar, son of the late Cornelius and Bertha (Braun) Ramaker. On July 25, 1947, he married Lois Oldenburg in Dubuque, Iowa. She survives. Before entering the military service, Charles was employed at the Wausau Piston Ring Company and at Briggs and Stratton, Milwaukee. Charles served in the US Navy as storekeeper as a 2nd class petty officer and spent time in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he entered into partnership with Charles Barrett in the grocery business. Together, they operated the East Side Market on Beech St., and later purchasing the Edgar Co-op food store and operating it as the Edgar Locker Plant until the time of his retirement. Charles found great joy in tending to his yard and flowers. He was a man of strong faith thoroughly enjoying his church and family. Charles served as an elder of the Edgar Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and member of the American Legion Sawyer Drumm Post #393, Edgar. Besides his wife, Lois Ramaker, Edgar survivors includes two sons, Jay (Barbara) Ramaker, Ridgefield, Washington and Thomas (Bernadette) Ramaker, Edgar; one daughter, Karen (Phillip) Werner, Ringle; three granddaughters, Carrie (Chad) Sickler, Ringle, Robin and Sarah Ramaker, Edgar; one sister, Ruth (Alan) Carey, Madison. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, 1806 Weston Ave., Schofield. Rev. Sid Bouldin will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, 1806 Weston Ave., Schofield. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar is in charge of arrangements.
