Alice Martha Cherney

Alice M. Cherney 85, Wausau, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston. She was born January 25, 1925 in Wausau, daughter of the late Edward and Alma (Clabunde) Nimz. On January 25, 1974, she married Ernest J. Cherney at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1987. Alice worked as an administrative assistant for the Wausau City Engineer from December 15, 1964 until her retirement on January 3, 1986. She was a member of the Wausau Elk's Lodge #248. For many years, Alice was an avid bowler and won several tournaments and awards. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include, two sons, Timothy (Barbara) Augustine, Rothschild and Thomas E. (Joyce) Augustine III, Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, Christopher Lee (Georgia) Augustine, Raleigh, N.C., Christopher J. Augustine, Rothschild, Alexandra Augustine, Raleigh, N.C., Katherine Augustine, Wausau and Thomas Ervin Augustine IV, Raleigh, N.C.; four siblings, Lynn (Marge) Nimz, Wausau, Wilbur Nimz, Little Chute, Ruth Draeger and Nancy Damrow, both of Schofield. Besides her parents and husband, Ernest, she was preceded in death by six siblings. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
