Paul J. Schneider, 91, Wausau, formerly of Mundelein, IL, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 4, 2020, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born April 29, 1928 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Kolleng) Schneider. On May 28, 1949, he married Florence Gruener at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Chicago. She survives.
Paul was a carpenter and worked for Cooper Stair in Libertyville, IL and later for Norberg Stair in Chicago, where he was a custom stair builder until his retirement. He was a member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the United States, gardening and woodworking, including making wood furniture.
Paul was a Scout Master for several years and an active member of both Santa Maria del Popolo, Mundelein and St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. He was a communion distributor to the homebound.
Paul worked for a very special group in Chicago called SPRED (Special Religious Education). His love and devotion for his special need’s son, Gerry, was never ending and he and Florence cared for Gerry until the day of his passing.
Survivors include, his loving wife of 70 years, Florence; five sons, Jim (Vicky) Schneider, Tomahawk, Robert (Laura) Schneider, Blue Island, IL, Gerald Schneider, Wausau, Joseph (Iany) Schneider, Rockville, MD and Thomas (Elaine) Schneider, Wausau; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Sesterhenn, Lincolnshire, IL and Kay (John) Kurowski, Mundelein, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Clet Sesterhenn and his nephew, Peter Sesterhenn.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau.
