Before declining health, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He had belonged to the Central Wisconsin Polka Club, Pommerscher Verein and Trailmates Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed playing sheepshead in card clubs, going to polka dances and Friday night fish frys.
He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, having held offices on the St. John Church Council. He was a member of the Men's Brotherhood and enjoyed participating in church activities.
