Obituary

Hubert J. (Hub) Kohnhorst passed away on October 1, 2017 at Aspirus Hospice House at the age of 92 from CHF and renal failure, with his daughter by his side. He joined his loving wife of 70 years, Eloda in their heavenly home. He was met at the gate by Eloda and their daughter, Judy. What a joyous reunion it was! If dogs go to Heaven I’m sure Buttons, Fluffy, Muffins, Cricket and especially Patches were jumping for joy when “dad” arrived.

Hubert was born in Green Bay, to Violet Bast on December 13, 1924. Violet later married Arthur Kohnhorst and they raised Hubert.

Hubert met Eloda Schenzel after having a flat tire in front of her home. It was love at first sight and they were married on March 31, 1943. He was 18 and she was 16 when they married before Hubert went off to serve in World War ll. Hubert served in the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division serving in Anzio. He worked for 42 years at the former Marathon Corporation, then American Can and retired from James River Corporation. He also had many part time jobs in his life time while working full time and after retirement. He was a hard worker and a great provider. He had a great sense of humor, loved telling jokes and was always there with a quick one-liner. His favorite thing to do was to go for lunch at the Blue Willow Restaurant where everyone there became his friend. When he walked in the door they were always happy to see him.

The marriage produced two loving daughters, Judy Rhyner who passed away on October 27, 2001 and Cheryl Kohnhorst of Wausau. Hub is further survived by his sister, Verna Narlock, Weston, nieces and nephews and many friends that he considered “family”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloda on December 19, 2013, daughter, Judy, parents, one brother and one sister.
By request no services will be held.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Aspirus Hospice house for the passionate care they gave dad for the short time he was there. To our friends who were more like family for being there for us at this difficult time, you all know who you are.
